Failing to read the fine print June 20, 2008

Living in a society that tells you “you can do anything and everything that you want!” is more like pressure than a motivation. Given the limitless options of careers and life paths, it’s hard not to ask whether one has chosen the best career for his/herself. Even while in college: which course should I take? Should I opt for this course that focuses on the subject that I love the most, or this course that promises to get its graduates a high paycheck after college? What is it that I love doing in the first place? It’s like ordering food in a restaurant: what should I buy? Do I maximize the use of my hard earned money by buying this one instead of that other one that my seatmate bought?

What’s more bothersome tho is that after the exhausting act of choosing only one among the several (if not unlimited) choices in the list, one cannot help but compare one’s choice to that of the others. We all had the same “menu” from which we chose from, but how were they able to get the better food? Did I choose wrong? Did I miss that part of the menu which says “best food in the menu,” etcetera, etcetera, etcetera.

Maybe this is why committing one’s self to just one person/thing is quite scary. You “jump in” to just one decision, and disregard the rest. The grass could (and always seems to be) greener further, but commitment hinders you from “jumping out.” It’s a bitch, but in decisions in life, love, career…how do you know if you’re heading in the right direction? Who is the Coach? Is there even an Adviser, like in high school? Or do you only have your clueless self to depend on?

And what if your clueless self, because of over analyzing things, got stuck in analysis paralysis? Now what?

its like working in a most expensive car company where you cant buy what you sell.

its like cooking food for your companies costumer where you go eating less than what you prepared.

life’s so unfair that way when your employed and parents pay more tuition fee’s and other expenses than what their child can earn after graduating.

and it’ll just be you and your faith in the end that helps you going and think that it’ll all be alright.
